About Us
The Meeting Place Restaurant & Mall opened in September of 1985. The historic building that it is in dates from the late 1800s. Zona Rogers, the owner, remodeled and modernized the building, creating one of the most beautiful public spaces in McAlester. In particular, brides in McAlester like to come to be photographed on the handmade staircase at the front of The Meeting Place.
The joy of a home-owned restaurant is the family feeling that the town comes to have for it. When you dine with us, you see the same faces greeting you at the door and serving you year after year. After two decades we are still proud to be a part of the downtown family.
Our pastry cook, Betty Scott, was cooking up her famous pies from the day the ribbon was cut on the building. Her pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, and bread pudding are a staple of The Meeting Place's reputation.
The restaurant manager, Tammy Cotton, has been with The Meeting Place since 1996. Her commitment to excellence has created a thriving catering and event business, in addition to our regular breakfasts and lunches.
Our Lunch cook, Robbie, has been our primary cook since 1996. Known for his scrumptious fried chicken and barbque, Robbie also mans the grill to cook up the "Downtown Burgers" that the local lunch crowd craves.
Our Breakfast cook, Joy, joined The Meeting Place kitchen in 2007. Her breakfast cooking is so good, you'll wonder if your grandmother is back in our kitchens.
Our wait staff is routinely complimented as the best service in town. Whether it is refilling a glass, helping an elderly patron through the buffet, or setting up a high-chair for our youngest patrons, Vickie, Mary, and Gail, go the extra mile, and do it with a smile.
Our hidden kitchen crew make your meals possible. From the beginning of the day to the end, they keep our kitchen clean and running smoothly.
